Mountain gorillas are critically endangered to the point that conservation effort has to be put in at every level. Highly social and exhibiting a patience not seen in other apes, mountain gorillas are generally likable and revered from a distance, until human started to encroach into their habitats for various reasons. Such encounters are often deadly, either the gorillas are killed or they will be forced into areas without their usual food source. Encounters with human is rarely a fairy tale for the mountain gorillas. 

This series of rings is created as a poignant reminder - there is always something we can do before the point of irreversibility.
