Hunting for walruses is currently illegal, save for a few indigenous groups who subsist on seasonal hunting of walruses. Even so, walruses are still vulnerable after centuries of indiscriminate hunting. As and if their population gradually grows, it will be a major boost in conservation effort, especially when commercial whalers/hunters always seem to find ways to circumvent the implementation of laws and regulations.  

This series of rings is created as a poignant reminder - there is always something we can do before the point of irreversibility.
